10:00 AM - Historical Instruments Demonstration and Lecture with Jim Forderer & Eric Symons

Jim Forderer has one of the most impressive collections of rare, historic guitars and related instruments in the world. This is a great opportunity for attendees to view, and hear, this unique collection demonstrated by Eric Symons as well as to try out some of the instruments for themselves.

10:00 AM - Self Publishing Guitar Music with Guy Cantwell

Learn the "tricks of the trade" for publishing sheet music on a small scale. Music Publisher Guy Cantwell will share his experience and knowledge with participants in a one hour clinic covering all the nuts and bolts of self-publishing sheet music. Using specific examples and recommendations, Guy will show participants how to publish their own editions of guitar music in an inexpensive and efficient manner.

11:00 AM - Expressive Playing with Daniel Roest

Unlock the secrets of full expression in this one hour workshop led by veteran teacher and performer Daniel Roest. Bring your instrument or just audit. Handouts provided. noon - Effective Practice Clinic with Babak Falsafi

Babak Falsafi will share from his broad experience as a teacher and performer, including techniques learned from classical master Manuel Barrueco. Topics include Proper Technique, Preparation, Memorization, Visualization, Problem Solving, Repertoire Maintenance, Sight Reading and more. All levels welcome. 1:00 PM - Sound Reinforcement and Recording Workshop with Bob Johnson

Learn the ins and outs of sound reinforcement for classical guitar and other acoustic instruments both for gigs at venues such as restaurants, weddings, and cafes as well as within a recording environment.

1:00 PM - Celtic Music Workshop with Bill Coulter

This workshop explores the use of the guitar in traditional Celtic music from Ireland and other parts of Western Europe. The class is hands-on and is geared towards classical guitarists who want to know more about accompanying Celtic dance music and playing solo finger-style arrangements of traditional melodies. We will learn to strum basic rhythm patterns for an Irish jig and reel and also learn a simple finger-style arrangement of a slow air. All guitar styles are welcome and sheet music will be provided. noon - Brazilian Guitar Workshop with Brian Moran

This will be a hands-on workshop in early Brazilian guitar styles including Maxixe, Choro, Samba, Samba Partido-Alto. Bossa Nova will be discussed in reference to these preceding styles. Generally, the focus of the class will be accompaniment styles. Playing participant should have at least 1 year of playing experience, preferably finger-style, but pick playing is OK. Nylon string acoustic guitar preferred.

noon - Learning to Play the Guitar with Jerry Snyder

Jerry will demonstrate and discuss the various playing techniques used in both fingerstyle and pickstyle guitar playing and will make you aware of the many opportunities for learning to play the guitar in our area. Jerry is the author of o?er 60 guitar publications, teaches beginning classical guitar and a jazz workshop at De Anza College and is a contributing writer for Acoustic Guitar magazine. 1:00 PM - Improvisation techniques with Patrick Francis

Ever wonder how to improvise? Would you like to have the ability to spontaneously create music on the guitar? In this class, students will be given easy-to-understand tools to enable them to begin to improvise and create music, or to build on prior experience with improvisation on the guitar. This will be a hands-on class: bring a guitar, and be ready to play! All levels welcome. Basic knowledge of guitar chords is helpful. Dr. Patrick Francis is the coordinator of classical guitar studies at San Jose State University and member of the San Francisco Guitar Quartet.

1:00 PM - Flamenco Guitar Technique Clinic with Andres Faz

Hear the different styles of Flamenco guitar and learn some of the techniques. Andres is a master instructor, who has studied with composer Jose Villarreal and Juan Arevalo, Concert Master of the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra. He has over 60 years of playing experience. Andres specializes in Flamenco and Latin styles.
